This post is about getting a domain, I will talk about how to can “get” one for free and how to also buy one. You can have a blog, shop, portfolio, business card, really anything you can think of.

Getting the Domain

You can use something like TLD-List.com to outright buy one. TLD-List provides you with the cheapest place to buy the domain you are looking for. Since you will own this it can be almost anything. If a domain has a green star that means it’s premium and you should probably avoid that (big price tag).

Keep in mind something like .xyz is cheap for the first year but you probably will have it for longer if your domain is personal. What you have to look for is the Renewal price. This website also has good descriptions for each TLD (Top Level domain) as well as second and third level. All this refers to is how many dots there is in the domain ending. If you need help thinking of a name for it I might make another post with a website that can help with that. If you want to search name availability on platforms and domains you can try out Name.com or Namecheck.com, these will probably lead to not the cheapest host like TLD List would.

If you want something more cool and less professional maybe for a handle for Bluesky or a link shortener. You can use DomainHacks.info it gives tons of ways what you type could be changed or shortened. You will need to find a place to host your domain. If you want to keep things free I personally would recommend InfinityFree. If you are okay spending money on hosting it opens the door to being able to do more, currently I use Hostinger but am thinking about switching to IONOS.

And if you think something should be added to this post just let me know.
